The Social Committee builds connections and team spirit among Back in Motion staff through social events.
Social events may be for one Back in Motion location, or the entire company. Some events may involve staff, family, and clients. Some of our recent events: Potlucks, “Make your own Sundaes”, bowling, softball, soccer, Christmas parties, and company picnics.
In partnership with the CARES and Health and Safety Committees, the Social Committee also contributes to events that benefit the larger community, and that promote overall health and wellness.
Corporate Activity for the Respect of the Environment and Society (CARES) is actively involved in initiatives that contribute to society, including fundraising and volunteering, engaging in environmentally sustainable practices, enhancing awareness and encouraging responsible behaviour.
Annually, Back in Motion participates in “Movember”, “Adopt-a-family”, “Vancouver Sun Run”, and “Run for the Cure,” and has collected donations for local food and clothing banks. Our fundraising events for local charities have included coffee and waffle mornings, summer BBQs and cookie bake-offs.
The CARES Committee is a recent member of the Richmond Caring Companies, a group of for profit and non-profit organizations that were brought together by Volunteer Richmond to learn strategies and develop structures to support community involvement within their organizations. Back in Motion staffers are committed to giving their time back to the local communities in the Lower Mainland.
All Back in Motion sites have implemented effective and standardised recycling procedures.
CARES is working closely with “The Sharing Farms” to assist with their summer orchards, and to help educate student farmers on body mechanics and ergonomics. On the First Annual Richmond Day of Caring on June 9th, 2012, Back in Motion staff volunteered at the Richmond Sharing Farm to plant squash, remove weeds, and re-pot plants.
Health and Safety Committee
The goal of the Health and Safety Committee is to ensure a safe, secure, clean, and accessible environment for staff and clients. Along with encouraging a healthy work/life balance, Back in Motion is a strong advocate for prevention of workplace incidents. Back in Motion provides regular First Aid/CPR training to its staff, and completes Annual External Inspections to ensure Health and Safety standards are met. In addition, staff members complete office inspections to address any safety concerns and ensure proper ergonomics. Our emergency training procedures include annual fire drills, earthquake drills, and bomb threat drills.
In addition, we promote blood donations, through prearranged visits by mobile blood donor clinics.
Back in Motion nurtures an environment of inclusion, embracing all cultures, ethnicities, religions, gender identities, sexual orientations, marital/parental statuses, ages and disabilities. Our primary goal is to uphold the Core Value of “respect for all, always,” as it relates to our Staff, Clients and other Stakeholders. We work diligently to provide the knowledge, skills, and training necessary to increase and maintain our cultural understanding, appreciation, and respect for all differences and similarities in beliefs, values, and best practices.
Safe Harbour Certified
Fifteen of our locations are Safe Harbour certified (Respect for All training sponsored by AMSSA). Back in Motion commits to ensuring that any person walking into our facilities is both respected and offered support in the event that they have been victims of mistreatment or discrimination.
