Philippe De Clerck – Chief Executive Officer


Meet Philippe De Clerck

Philippe De Clerck (CEO) has over 25 years of experience in delivering and managing health and employment services varying in size and scope. 

Philippe holds an advanced degree in Physical Therapy from Ghent University and an Executive MBA degree from Athabasca University. He has been a Registered Physical Therapist in British Columbia since 1992, and is a member of the British Columbia and Canadian Physiotherapy Associations. 

Philippe has been part of Back in Motion’s Executive Team for over 20 years. Before becoming the CEO in 2019, he was the VP of Operations for 7 years and, before that, the Director of Rehabilitation Services for 12 years. As the CEO, Philippe ensures implementation of the organization’s vision and leads the development of its short- and long-term strategy. He also communicates with the company’s different stakeholders. 

Outside of work, Philippe enjoys spending time with his family, being in nature and traveling. He is also a voracious reader.

A fun fact about Philippe: he completed the Hawaii Ironman on two occasions.

Dave Bernard – VP Of Health Services


Meet Dave Bernard

Dave has over 17 years of experience in the allied health and rehabilitation industry. He completed an Honours degree in Psychology from the University of Victoria in 1993 and a Bachelor of Physical Therapy in Rehabilitation Medicine from University of British Columbia in 2002.

Dave became a member of the Executive Team in 2008, and has played a key role in the strategic growth of the health services division, including the geographic expansion of Back in Motion’s Health Centres and the acquisition and expansion of Legacies Health Centres.

His current role includes strategic planning and execution, policy development, business to business relations, and operational oversight of the Health Services division including third party payer rehabilitation programs and direct-to-consumer private pay health services. 

Dave’s passions include coaching his two daughters with soccer, RVing when given the chance, and the occasional home project! 

Vicky Forsyth, B.Sc. PT – VP Business Development & Quality Improvement


Meet Vicky Forsyth

Vicky completed her Physical Therapy degree at UBC in 1991. She then sought out a relaxed lifestyle and worked as a PT for nine years in sunny Florida, gaining valuable experience in an array of clinical settings. With a desire to be closer to friends and family and return to West Coast living, she returned to BC in 2001.

Vicky started her Back in Motion journey in 2003 as a Physical Therapist. As the company expanded, she moved into rehabilitation services management. In 2012, Vicky was the Special Projects Manager & Quality Improvement Leader, responsible for ensuring high quality services and supporting company diversification. Currently, Vicky is VP Business Development & Quality Improvement, where she is fortunate to spend her time collaborating with many individuals both inside and external to Back in Motion. Her main interest lies in exploring opportunities and transforming service concepts into reality.

To nurture her love of nature and time with friends and family, she relocated to her home town on Vancouver Island. During non-working hours, she enjoys kayaking, paddle boarding, golf, and laughing with friends.

Hazel Choy, B.Sc. PT – VP of Operations, Health Services


Meet Hazel Choy

Hazel completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Alberta in 1997 and began her career working as a physiotherapist in the area of chronic pain management.  In 1999, she moved to British Columbia and joined Back in Motion in 2000. 

Through her work as a physiotherapist in various return to work focused WorkSafeBC programs, Hazel developed a passion for educating clients and preventing disability.  Highly motivated and keen to take on new challenges, she accepted leadership positions within the company, becoming a Rehabilitation Services Manager in 2009, General Manager in 2011 and Director in 2019.  She is now the VP of Operations, Health Services.  Her diverse experience has included IT and Telehealth projects and she has also been Privacy Officer for the organization.  Hazel received a certificate in Advanced Management from UBC Sauder School of Business in 2017.

She is an avid runner and cyclist and enjoys outdoor pursuits.  She has competed in numerous road and trail races, including the Boston Marathon, ultramarathons, a Fondo and an adventure race.

Bernd Gruenhage – Director of Employment Services


Meet Bernd Gruenhage

Bernd has been with BiM since 1998. During this time he has had the opportunity to hold several positions and be part of the development and growth of the organization.  From his initiation into Vocational Services with Back in Motion’s first ministry funded programs, VRC, with the Activity Related Soft Tissue Disorder program, GM of WorkBC contracts, to his current role as Director of Employment services, he has had the opportunity to work in developing and implementing a range of vocational programs and services. 

Bernd recognizes the complex dynamics that create barriers to employment for immigrants and people with disabilities and is inspired by their courage, tenacity and motivation to meet vocational goals. He enjoys being part of a dynamic leadership team working to create opportunities for individuals towards independence.  Additionally he loves to mentor team members and provide opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Bernd holds a MA in Counselling from Gonzaga University and has RRP and CCRC designations. 

During his spare time, Bernd enjoys renovating and landscaping on his property. He especially loves spending meaningful time with family and friends.
